MISSION GRANTS 2022 - 2024
Mission Goal: $15,000
1. Circle of Grace (Dignity 4 Girls) - $3000 - PAID
Dignity for Girls was founded in 2014 and partners with Circles of Grace and Grace Community Center in Kisi, Kenya and Liberia to empower women and girls in the name of Jesus. They help the women and girls to learn skills for employment, improve food availability and education, by teaching the women how to sew reusable feminine hygiene kits not only for themselves but to sell for an income. These kits make it possible for the girls to keep on attending school and not take time off each month. The cost of the materials for the kits is high and many cannot afford them, the kits are sold for U.S. $10. New underwear and washcloths are also passed out.
Soap is very expensive, and many cannot afford to buy it, so they are taught how to make it.
Hens and goats are given out for sustainable food sources, the hens for eggs and later meat, the goats for milk. The eggs and milk provide a crucial nourishment for families plus a product to sell. The gospel of Christ is included in all the programs that are used by Circles of Grace. One such program is trying to stop the practice of Female Genital Mutilation; this support can help protect the girls from early marriage or pregnancy. Covid has placed a strain on the programs with the lockdowns and many regulations. Heavy fines are imposed for not wearing a mask, which many cannot afford. Girls could not attend school and were forced to trade sex for hygiene products or food. Also, with Covid, counseling is needed for the girls who became pregnant or were abused; skills training is needed along with guidance to forgive themselves and their abusers. Mature women mentor the girls by showing them how to prepare meals, care for the animals and babies. They also share life's challenges and concerns along with the love of Christ. A grant of $3000 will supply Bibles, feminine hygiene kits and other necessities to Circles of Grace.
2. Outdoor Kitchen For Grace Orphanage in Haiti - $3000 - PAID
Caribbean Children's Foundation was founded in 2003 as a means to help the children in the countries of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
The original purpose of the organization was to obtain sponsorship for children living in orphanages of the Caribbean. Since that time CCF’s outreach has grown. They now obtain sponsors for the education of children and young adults, medical care for critically ill children, and working in a remote community.
One of these remote communities is the small island of Ile-A-Vache, off the main island of Haiti. Our loving God is doing great work through Caribbean Children’s Foundation through educational scholarships, a trade school for the older children that they may learn skills to be able to provide for their families, an orphanage to care for boys who need a home and a medical facility that is currently under construction so that the people can get medical care right there instead of traveling to the main island to get any needed medical assistance.
The government would like to see a separate structure, located away from the building, where food could be cooked rain or shine. Right now, the cook works over an open fire, but when it rains, they cook between the orphanage and the cistern. Their concern is that carbon monoxide could enter the orphanage using this method. The sum of $3000 would help to make a new government approved kitchen.
3. Plan B Foundation - $3000 - PAID
Matthew 25:36 Jesus declares" I was naked, and you clothed me, I was sick, and you visited me, I was in prison, and you came to me. The Plan B Foundation’s mission is to help those who need to start over or have been incarcerated find and sustain full time employment. Their vision is taken from Proverbs 31:8-9 Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy. The Plan B Foundation not only hires formerly incarcerated people but also teaches them how to work full time. Many of them have little skills and little money to get the training that is needed. Finding full time employment can be a struggle with having been incarcerated and having little education and no skills. One program that is provided is to teach basic construction skills and how to use hand tools. Each employee receives a bag of tools during training that they get to keep and are responsible for bringing them to work. Many feel a sense of pride with the skills they learn and the tools they have. By helping these individuals with training and finding full time employment, the love of Christ is shown to those who don't know him, along with the forgiveness of their past. A grant of $3000 will help to supply 18 employees with a bag of tools.
4. Bible Books for Spanish Speaking Families - $3,000 - PAID
The Lutheran Heritage Foundation is an irreplaceable supplier of resources for Lutheran missions around the world. Requests for the Spanish speaking Bibles throughout the world outpaces what LHF can provide. In 2008 LHF published 20,000 copies of the Bible with Luther's small Catechism, to churches in Cuba, The Dominican Republic, Spain, Chile, Venezuela, Peru and Mexico. Thousands were also distributed to Spanish missions in the United States. Since that time a children's book, A Child's Garden of Bible Stories has been printed in Spanish. During this time of Covid, the poor have suffered even more. In Tijuana, Mexico the mission team continues to pray with them and deliver faith-building materials; provide food, and continue to find creative ways to help them experience hope in Jesus."In 2021 LHF planned to distribute 56,000 Spanish books around the world with more requests coming in every day. The books are free of charge to churches, individuals, and ministries that cannot afford to purchase them. Tens of Thousands are distributed in countries like Chile, Panama, Paraguay and Nicaragua to name a few. These Spanish written materials simplify the sharing of the gospel with the unchurched. A grant of $3000 would help LHF provide more than 600 Spanish Bibles and books in the United States, South and Central Americas
5. LCMS Campus Ministry - Arizona - $3,000
Going off to college for many students is both an exciting and scary time, full of challenges and opportunities for students to grow as God’s people. That's where LCMS Campus Ministry comes to help. The LCMS Campus Ministry is located in 22 states and 1 Canadian province. Students are given the opportunity to grow in faith and integrate what they are learning in the classroom with the faith they learned at their home congregations. The goal is that at the end of their college career, these students will go out into the world ready to be a blessing to God’s Kingdom as they pursue their chosen vocation. University of Arizona's LCMS Campus Ministry is recognized as a flagship ministry and currently has the ability to reach out to high school students. A grant of $3000 would provide seed money reaching the students in 6 strategic communities throughout Arizona.
6. Journey Lutheran School - Job Coaching Hours - $3000
Journey Lutheran school’s mission statement is centered in Christ, preparing students that have learning challenges to use their God given talents. They are taught how to use their spiritual, academic, social, physical and emotional gifts to the glory of God. The students can also participate in therapeutic programs such as art, music, motor lab and a sensory room. With the school gaining in popularity, the school needs to expand to 2 classrooms for some grades. As the students move into adulthood they are being prepared for the best outcomes.12th grade students are learning skills, getting work experience and completing training materials. A classroom supervisor is needed so the 12th grade teacher can go out to organize and seek out job placements for the students. The teacher also visits the students on the job site and checks on those who are more independent. A $3000 grant would help hire a supervisor for approximately 34 days during the school year so the teacher can go out to help the students.
