History
The English District is one of the two non-geographic districts of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. It's inception can be traced to colonial times. When the district was formally organized in 1888, there were few parishes in the Missouri Synod which used English. Thus English is a historic name. Today there are 161 congregations, 6 new mission starts, 5 campus ministries, 1 human care ministry, 67 schools in the Canadian province of Ontario and in eighteen states, crossing 4 time zones, and employing 23 different languages for worship of the Lord and Bible study. Membership currently consists of approximately 56,000 baptized members and 44,000 communicant members. The English District's vision is to ignite Christ's Church in Mission by serving communities, connecting with the unchurched and dechurched, growing in faith and numbers, and reproducing through the planting of new churches.
The LWML English District was formed in 1944. It currently is comprised of 60 societies in nine states. For sixty plus God-blessed years, the orgniazation has been equipping women to live out their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to financially support missions. The LWML English District encourages women to lead rich spiritual lives, to find avenues for service, to mentor their sisters in Christ, and to maintain a mission consciousness as they meet the challenge to share the Gospel message on a daily basis.
Mission Statement
To unite the women of the English District so that each one is strengthened in her relationship with the Triune God and enabled to use her gifts in service to the Lord.
